In 2013, Yannick Nielen graduated as a pharmacist at the University of Groningen. During his studies, he did a research internship at the University of Sydney on the topic of anticholinergic drug use in elderly men. This research project stimulated him to continue working in the field of pharmacoepidemiology.
Hereafter, Yannick Nielen started a PhD at the department of Clinical Epidemiology within the Care and Primary Health Research Institute (CAPHRI) of Maastricht University. His research focused on the association between diabetes mellitus and osteoarthritis of the knee and hip, and outcomes associated with the treatment of osteoarthritis. In 2014 he also started following the clinical pharmacology training program of the Dutch Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmacy. After finishing his PhD in 2017, he started working as a pharmacist at the department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology at the Maastricht University Medical Center.
