DOAC SMI 2: Evaluating safety and efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants in patients receiving oral targeted anticancer treatments

Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) have a high risk of developing venous thrombo-embolic events (VTEs). Therefore, these patients are increasingly treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). In previous research, we have seen that anticancer treatments may substantially increase or decrease the concentrations of DOACs in blood, potentially leading to increased VTE or bleeding risk. The DOAC SMI 2 study aims to determine which combinations (DOAC with anticancer treatment) increase VTE/bleeding risk, and what we can do to manage these interactions.
