Influence of drug-drug interactions on hospital readmissions in patients with heart failure
Description
The escalating prevalence of chronic diseases due to an ageing population poses a significant health care challenge, with heart failure standing out due to its profound effects on morbidity, mortality, and overall quality of life. Heart failure not only reduces quality of life significantly but is also complicated by the presence of numerous co-morbidities in patients and the need for multiple medications, leading to a complex therapeutic regimen. The phenomenon of polypharmacy, or the use of multiple drugs, along with the potential for drug interactions, raises concerns about its implications on adverse events and patient outcomes, yet the full extent of these impacts remains underexplored. To address this gap, our research focuses on delineating the scope of polypharmacy among elderly patients with heart failure, particularly exploring the possible interactions between medications and their subsequent effects on adverse events, prognosis, and quality of life.
