VWS Delegation Visits Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Toxicology
On Wednesday, June 4, a delegation from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) visited the Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Toxicology. The visit centered on medication safety and featured presentations and discussions on several key topics, including:
- Integration of clinical and outpatient pharmaceutical care
- Clinical medication transfer and the causes of (re)admissions
- The value of outpatient medication verification
- The unnecessary continuation of clinically initiated medications post-discharge, such as hypnotics, and regional agreements to prevent prolonged opioid use
- Identification, management, and prevention of prescribing cascades
- Risk-based double checks of parenteral medications
- Academic networks in the Netherlands, with particular emphasis on the newly established Southern Academic Network of Pharmacists (ZANA)
The delegation’s visit provided an inspiring opportunity for our department to showcase our pharmaceutical care services and practice-based research.
