Annual Maastricht Studie Research Day

On Wednesday, December 3 2025, Nikki Werkman and Annemariek Driessen jointly gave a presentation during the annual research day of the Maastricht Study.

Annemariek provided an overview of the background of the larger project, after which Nikki discussed the specific studies she conducted during her PhD using data from the Maastricht Study. Her findings revealed that clusters based on disease severity do not align with differences in quality of life between those clusters.

Furthermore, the research showed that it is possible to predict which individuals will fail to achieve their glycemic targets within one year, whereas it is not possible to predict who will experience a decline in quality of life within the same timeframe.
