EuGMS 2026 Workshop

During the EuGMS Congress last September, Charlotte Falke delivered a workshop entitled “Complexity of Medication Use in Older Adults: How to Identify, Reduce, and Incorporate It into Medication Reviews.”

The workshop was attended by approximately 30 to 35 participants from various countries and professional backgrounds. Healthcare professionals from Canada, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland took part in the session.

Through interactive, case-based discussions, participants explored how the complexity of medication use extends beyond the number of prescribed medicines or the outcomes of standardized assessment tools. The workshop examined how patients’ routines, beliefs, experiences, and daily circumstances can influence medication use and medication management.

The discussions highlighted the importance of combining clinical expertise, the patient perspective, and practical interviewing techniques to identify challenges, reduce medication-use complexity, and support safer, more patient-centered pharmacotherapy for older adults.

The workshop proved to be an engaging and valuable session, with enthusiastic participants contributing international perspectives and sharing experiences from their own clinical practice.
