Dr. Luc Derijks

In 1998, Luc Derijks graduated as a pharmacist at Utrecht University. In 2004, he finished both his residency hospital pharmacy and clinical pharmacology education program at Maasland Hospital in Sittard to become a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist. For his PhD at the University of Amsterdam in 2005, he studied three new strategies for optimization of pharmacotherapy with the so-called thiopurines in the management of inflammatory bowel diseases. For his research he received the Thesis Award of the Dutch Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmacy and several international awards. Since 2004 he is an associate director of pharmacy and director residency training at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology at Máxima MC in Veldhoven. Since 2023, he also is a senior researcher at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology of Maastricht UMC+ and the School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism (NUTRIM) of Maastricht University. His passion and research focuses on individualizing (complex) drug treatments of diseases and disorders, especially for patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
